It is possible that you may experience a problem with your braces during treatment such as a broken orthodontic
appliance or a loose bracket. You will be given detailed instructions on how to handle minor problems but in the
case of a broken appliance or loose bracket it is best to call the office. We can determine if a repair appointment is
needed and schedule it so you will not be in discomfort and your treatment will not be compromised.
When braces are first placed on the teeth it is not unusual for the teeth or mouth to feel sore or tender the next
day. This can also occur after some adjustment appointments and typically lasts two to three days. This is quite
common and, if necessary, can be relieved with whatever pain relief medication you normally take for a headache or
similar pain.
Additional information on the above topics can be found at the
American Association of Orthodontists.
